PhD in Political Science and Planning from the University of Tsukuba (Japan), Master’s in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), and Bachelor’s in Economics and Politics from Presidency University, Kolkata. He is a senior researcher at ORF America, where he leads the global economics and development policy program, focusing on digital economy governance, financial inclusion, climate finance, and the expansion of social protection systems.
From 2013 to 2021, he was a public policy researcher at the Center for Global Development (CGD), where he produced studies on digital identification, financial services, and global health certification standards. He previously served as an associate professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (India), with an emphasis on public expenditure management and social financing.
Mukherjee is the author of several articles in international journals such as Nature, Conservation Letters, Agricultural Economics, and the Journal of Asian Economics, and co-author of the book Social Sector in a Decentralized Economy: India in the Era of Globalization (Cambridge University Press, 2016). He has worked on projects and research in Japan, Brazil, Yemen, and Sri Lanka.
